Terms

The terms for using Thread.

These are the rules for using Thread, written to be read. They sit alongside the privacy page, which says exactly what happens to your data. By using Thread you agree to both.

Last updated 17 October 2026.

What Thread is

Thread captures the AI conversations you choose to connect, finds the ideas, decisions and open questions in them, and helps you recall and continue your thinking. It uses AI to do this, so it can be wrong: it may miss an idea, keep something that isn't one, or group things incorrectly. You stay in charge — you can keep, correct or remove anything it finds.

Your account

Thread creates an anonymous account for you the first time you open the app, so you can start straight away. You can add an email later to sign in on another device or to buy Pro. You are responsible for what happens on your devices and for keeping your sign-in safe. You must be old enough to enter into a contract where you live.

Plans and payment

  • Free: your first 25 ideas, no card and no time limit. You can read, recall and continue every one of them for as long as your account exists.
  • Pro: $15 per month (the price you are shown at checkout applies; taxes may be added where required). It lifts the 25-idea cap and uses a more capable model to write your “continue from here” handoffs.
  • Payments are handled by Paddle, our payment provider and merchant of record. Paddle collects payment, issues receipts and handles sales tax. Your card details go to Paddle, never to Thread.
  • Pro renews every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account; you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for, and your Free plan carries on.
  • If we change the price, we will tell you before it affects you, and you can cancel before it does.

For refunds, see the refund policy.

Your content

What you bring into Thread stays yours. You give Thread permission to store it and process it only so that we can provide the service to you — including sending text to the AI providers named on the privacy page to get a result back. Thread does not train models on your content. You can export or delete all of it at any time.

You are responsible for what you choose to capture. Please don't capture conversations you have no right to — for example someone else's confidential information, or material your employer forbids you from putting into other tools. Thread removes API keys and similar secrets before upload, but you shouldn't rely on that as your only protection.

What you agree not to do

  • Use Thread for anything unlawful, or to harm others.
  • Try to break, overload or get around the service, its limits or its security, or access another person's data.
  • Copy, resell or reverse-engineer the app beyond what the law allows you to do regardless.

AI output is a starting point

Thread's summaries, ideas and handoffs are produced by AI and may be inaccurate or incomplete. They are not legal, medical, financial or other professional advice. Check anything that matters before you rely on it.

The Mac app and the browser extension

We give you a personal, non-exclusive licence to use Thread for Mac and the Thread browser extension for your own use. The app updates itself in the background. The extension runs only on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and reads other pages only when you ask it to.

Changes and availability

Thread is a young product and it will change. We try to keep it available but can't promise it will always be, and we may change or retire features. If a change materially affects what you pay for, we will tell you.

Ending your use

You can stop at any time, and delete everything in Thread for Mac under Settings → Your data → Delete everything. We may suspend or end an account that abuses the service or breaks these terms. What happens to your data when you delete it is described on the privacy page.

Our responsibility

Thread is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for anything connected to Thread is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits anything that the law doesn't allow us to limit, including your statutory consumer rights.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Thread after that means you accept the change.
